This is the piece I did previous to the one with my son. The Elvin lady in this small quilt was originally a drawing that my daughter Sarita did many years ago. I was looking through her sketchbooks and came across her and knew I had to use it!
The name came from "Cathy Sarita" translated on the web on a "what is your name in Elven" site and the city is "New York" translated at the same place.
For Larien I used several different methods: handpainting, beading, applique, her dress was slightly stuffed before attaching it. Her headpiece is a ribbon with floral sequins and an earring, and she is wearing real studs in her ears.
The cityscape was handpainted over the fabric and then glitter paint was applied also to give the illusion of twinkling lights.
I just set out to have fun with this one and try some things I never did before. I really like how it turned out and plan on using more of her art in other pieces.
