Here is a picture of my entry to She Made Her Mark Too. It is all appliqué, with a teeny bit of painting on her face. I am honored and amazed that she was accepted. My 3rd attempt at entering something and I fully expected another "no thanks" letter so needless to say I am THRILLED! She will be traveling around with the rest of the exhibit and will be in these 4 shows right now:
*The Loft Gallery & Studios 401 South Mesa, San Pedro, CAJune/July 2007*The Mancuso's Venue Tour World Quilt & Textile Show September 6-9, 2007 in Harrisburg, PA*Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) October 11-14, 2007 Santa Clara, CA *Grand Finale of 2007 World Quilt Competition Tour November 8-11, 2007 Schaumberg, ILmaybe more.... I may not have made it into the She Made Her Mark exhibit at the Quilter's Hall of Fame, but I am MORE than happy at where OUR part of the show will be seen.
You will notice 2 quotes by Lucy framed on the wall...one says "I am not funny. What I am is brave" and the other says, "use a makeup table with everything close at hand, and dont rush, otherwise you will end up looking like a patchwork quilt" The last one is the one that inspired this quilt.
While working on the wallhanging for Josh's friend, it suddenly hit me that if a wallhanging would be a nice gift how much nicer would a totebag for her be?? She is a teacher after all and lugs all manner of stuff around.
And that's when the "lightbulb moment" occurred!!!
We have all seen t'shirts, bags, cups, etc with pictures of pets, kids, grandkids, SO's etc on them...
Well I am going to begin taking orders for customized totebags with quilted portraits on them!! Two styles..the kind like Josh's picture and the kind like Lucy's picture. I already have a request to attempt a pet picture...wish me luck on that please :-). Totes will include the picture and the fabric that is requested (like Josh in his fishing hat on fishing tackle fabric) and can be made in several sizes. They have 2 inner pockets and an attached keychain holder.
After the holidays I may branch out and attempt other types of bags...lunchbags for small children with their pictures on them...or pics of mommy??? Who knows?
Any comments on this idea?
Here is the latest that I did today. It is my rendition of the photo I have posted here. It will be a Christmas gift for Josh's pal Donna who takes him fishing and stuff. I have to say it was a LOT of work but I am really pleased with the way it came out! I am already looking forward to doing MORE portraits. I also did another one this weekend but since it is a secret project I cant post it....lol That one is more realistic...
