under door draft guard

Today's quickie project.

They sell these in catalogs and stuff for $10, for $5 I got 5 pipe insulators (the grey thing in picture) and using an old pair of jeans made TWO of these for my doors.
They slide under the door so there is a *roll* on each side and it stays put when opening and closing the door. So much better than having to put the thing back in place all
the time and VERY easy to make!

What you need:
A package of pipe insulators
Heavy fabric
tape measure
scissors
sewing machine, thread etc
pins

How I did it.
1.Measure the door to see how long you need your tube.
2.Choose your fabric, I went with a leg off and old pair of jeans for the durability.
3.Place tube on one long edge and roll fabric over it snugly, pin and slide tube out (You COULD hand sew this while it's in place if you wish)
4.Slide under door and from the side without a tube, pull the side with the tube snugly against the door. Place the other tube, while it is snug against door, roll fabric over it and pin it.
5. Slide out from under door, remove tubes, stitch along the pinned lines.
6, Slide tubes back in
Voila! The same item you can buy in stores at a much lower cost that takes mere minutes to make! I'm also thinking this would be a good idea for draft blockers under windows!

What I didn't do but is a good idea!
While this works great, it tends to slide out from under the door when opening and closing it. Not a lot but enough where you have to keep sliding it back under all the way to close the door.
I recommend sewing a band across the edge of the side that sits near the hinged side of the door to prevent this from happening..however some doors fit tightly into their frames so before doing this pin it and make sure your door will close with that piece of fabric there!
If not, it's really not that big of a deal sliding this under the door when it slips out (only about an inch or so does that, not the whole thing)

So that's it. Sorry I don't have photos but I made this several years ago and didn't think of taking photos at the time.
If you make one I'd love to know :-)
