Hunting for the perfect fabrics.......sigh

I had just started working on my soft sculpture piece this morning when it hit me.

I'm sure that all of you who quilt or work with fabric are familiar with the feeling. You have your fabrics ready and are beginning to measure. As you lay them out the thought begins to worm it's way into your mind that perhaps switching that batik for a bright solid pop of yellow fabric would be better. And if you do that, wouldn't it look so great if you also used that purple with lime green dots....and you're off.

As am I, to the bins of fabrics in the basement where I keep my stash. To get all NEW fabrics for the project that I was CERTAIN I had chosen fabrics for yesterday!

So far I have gathered and rejected 4 different fabric choices. Prints didn't work like I thought they would, solids seemed too boring, even though I chose bright colors, and a mix of prints and solids didn't look right. Even batiks which almost never let me down just didn't speak to me for this project.

I have wasted almost my entire day looking for things to make art with. NOW I am beginning to remember why I stopped working with fabrics! Even though all of it is pretty well organized in the bins it is still time consuming going through it all, especially when nothing seems to work.

However, I think I may have finally decided on what I will be using. Three fabrics. Lace, canvas, and homespun.

New series in the works

As I mentioned Sunday, I have 2 new projects in the works and I also shared a photo of some of the materials for one of them. This a photo of the progress of that project, which is the first of a series. Not sure how many pieces will be included, I guess I will make them until I decide not to make any more!

Any guesses what this might be?

TWO more WIPS...I'm on a roll!

Because I am unsure what I'm doing with the upper corner of the Drowning piece, I decided to begin work on not one, but TWO other projects that I have been wanting to do for quite some time.

If you'd like a hint, one is a soft sculpture of sorts...and the other one isn't.

Just finished adding gesso to the "other item" so it will be dried and ready when I can work on it and shall now finish gathering items for the sculpture.

Here are some of the materials I'll be using for the soft sculpture. Does anybody have a guess what it might be?

Some day I might wake up and think "I should spend the day doing housework." But for now, while the creative juices are flowing so strongly I'm just going to go with the flow!

"Drowning in a 'C' of Frustrations"

A little bit more work to be done on this. I'm not happy with the eyes for instance, and I have a couple of options in mind for the upper left corner which is why it is blank. But here is the first photo of the second day's work..

New WIP

Started a new painting today, using acrylics on wrapped canvas. Here is the progress so far.

Worked on something different today. A tiny angel 2"wide and 3"long. Just thought I should have put a pin back on it, maybe tomorrow. This was a spur of the moment idea so is a little rough, I didn't have a lot of time because I wanted to give it to my friend fast. I'll be making another one soon and will post a better photo.
If anyone is interested in having one made I can customize the color of the halo and the gown. Just let me know.

Naïve Art

I believe I may have finally found the style of art that my paintings MIGHT belong to..Naïve Art.

Naïve art is a classification of art that is often characterized by a childlike simplicity in its subject matter and technique.

I found the artist below and love her work, especially the 3 girls in the rain shown below. Of course my work is not even close to hers or any of the others I have found...yet  Katerina Mertikas

This piece of hers made me laugh out loud, it is so funny and another one I'd love to own!
It's title is appropriately enough, "Expose Yourself to Art"

I also stumbled across this artist..Awang Fadilah...and I simply LOVE his art and just may have to buy one! Here is one of his paintings. You can find more of his work, which is for sale, on his Facebook page.

I could go on and on sharing artists and images that I love, but I think I'll let you do some exploring of this wonderful art form on your own so you can discover your own favorites.
